Salish Sea Wx was developed by Bill Ray whose professional career has been using computers to analyze and present data in innovative ways, ways that give people better insight. He founded Apian Software in 1986 where the focus has been on surveys and decision analysis software.

Bill was a sailor in California and an instrument-rated private pilot before moving to Seattle. He has been cruising a diesel trawler since 2001 in the Salish Sea plus a couple of adventures up the Inside Passage. He is an award-winning instructor for the Seattle Sail & Power Squadron.

Weather has been an important factor in all those travels, and the complex Pacific NW weather became intellectually fascinating in its own right. Bill has used the UW MM5, NWS Discussions and Pacific Maps in his boating classes and for cruise planning decisions on the Salish Sea for a decade. He "knows good data when he sees it", as these tools have proven to be in practice. Combining that with his day-job resulted in this App.
